Collector Collection: The Hublot and Depeche Mode collaboration for the benefit of different causes.

It has already been fourteen years since Hublot and Depeche Mode announced the signing of their first collaboration dedicated to raising public awareness and raising funds for various causes.

AMILCAR MAGAZINE is pleased to present the new collaboration between Hublot and Depeche Mode. 

Depeche Mode is an iconic group that has created a unique signature in the musical field. The group’s universe is iconic: the sound, the rhythm, the lyrics, the clips, the concerts… We might as well tell you that we love this style of music and when we think of Depeche Mode, we think of an artistic vision and a style that no one can imitate. So, obviously Depeche Mode could only work with a watch brand with a unique style, with an imprint, technicality, an assertive style. 

Apart from the unique style, what appeals to me is the commitment and the meaning. Any creation must obviously please, but a creation that also has a vocation appeals to me all the more. Commitment is important, especially these days. This is why I have the immense pleasure of sharing this new collaboration with you.

Renewed with each new tour of the British group, this partnership has since raised more than 2.3 million dollars for the benefit of the Teenage Cancer Trust and charity: water.

In March 2023, Depeche Mode announced its comeback with the launch of Memento Mori, its 15th studio album, and a world concert tour.

Always alongside the group with more than 100 million records sold, Hublot will participate as a partner to raise funds and raise public awareness for the benefit of Conservation Collective, a charitable work uniting at a global level a network of regional philanthropic foundations working for the protection, preservation and restoration of natural environments.

Thanks to funding from Depeche Mode & Hublot, the first round of projects tackling plastic pollution at the source in 2023 has supported seven impactful initiatives in seven countries, with three further rounds of funding expected to contribute to even more positive changes.

The projects aim to turn the tide on plastic by encouraging local waste management, plastic elimination and clean-up initiatives.

It is in this context that Hublot and Depeche Mode met in Berlin, eleven years after their first joint event in the German capital, to reveal a new limited edition watch, the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode.

The iconic tonneau shape of the Spirit of Big Bang model is here designed according to Hublot’s iconic All Black aesthetic. Its design, designed in collaboration with Depeche Mode, combines the skull motif – an emblem seen in the video announcing the group’s return – with an hourglass, a symbol of time passing.

Occupying the center of the dial, it contains small black ceramic balls which symbolically flow in one direction or the other, depending on the movements of the wrist, thus evoking the phrase Memento Mori. This Latin formula meaning “Remember that you are going to die,” in Latin is intended to provoke reflection on the transience of life.

On the margins of this dial, the initials DM, logo of the British group, appear at 6 o’clock. The indexes take the shape of pyramidal pins, a motif repeated on the black ceramic bezel. Measuring 42mm, the barrel-shaped case is made of sandblasted and polished black ceramic.

It contains an automatic movement caliber HUB1710_SD offering a power reserve of 50 hours. Each copy of the Spirit of Big Bang Depeche Mode will be delivered with two easily interchangeable bracelets thanks to the patented One Click system. The first is made from recycled materials and Velcro to support the sustainable development efforts advocated by The Conservation Collective.

The second, in black rubber, closes with a folding clasp also in black titanium. It uses the pyramidal pins already present on the bezel and the dial for a very rock look.

Each of the 100 copies in this limited edition will be delivered in a specific box containing a big surprise: a 25 cm vinyl single of the Depeche Mode title Wagging Tongue, only available in this box, and produced using energy green in recycled PVC !
