Canary Islands : Abama Resort, Tenerife’s new flagship destination

In recent years, tourism to the Canary Islands has grown enormously, thanks to the destination’s climate, safety and tranquillity. The island of eternal spring has rapidly become a must for travelers in search of subtropical nature less than 4 hours from France, but also for potential homeowners looking for exceptional properties with an authentic and unique character. The Canaries have become a veritable slice of paradise, communicating a message of serenity to Europeans, promoting a more sustainable model of tourism in a safe destination that encourages long stays. Abama Resort Tenerife adapts to these new trends with a tourism and real estate offer to suit every need.

The Canaries 2023 Real Estate and Construction Forum has unveiled a detailed report on luxury real estate on these islands, produced by Idealista, Spain’s largest second-home platform. The percentage of foreign demand for luxury properties in Spain averages around 30%, reaching 37% in Las Palmas and almost 50% in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The most popular products among luxury homes are 3, 4 and 5-bedroom villas priced between 1 and 2 million euros.

The Canary Islands have also recorded the best employment figures in the construction sector over the last six years. Currently, 6,000 companies of all types operate in this sector. Indeed, construction is booming and tourism is becoming the islands’ leading market.

Abama responds to new real estate demands and keeps up with building trends with its collections of villas: Abama Luxury Residences. The exclusive Los Jardines de Abama apartments enjoy absolute privacy and panoramic views of the Abama golf course. Several swimming pools face the spacious apartments, available with one, two or three bedrooms and as many bathrooms, a hall, living room, kitchen, veranda and large terrace. The sublime villas of Las Villas del Tenis, designed by two internationally renowned architects from Tenerife, Virgilio Gutiérrez and Eustaquio Martínez, complete the offer. With three bedrooms, a private heated pool for lounging, a covered garage and breathtaking views, the villas in this new hotel concept appeal to the most upscale guests.

At the real estate forum, a number of topics were discussed, including the place of women and young people in the construction and innovation sector, new building systems and sustainability. Francesc Pujol, moderator of the debate and Director of Real Estate for Arum Group and Abama Luxury Residences, explained that the main objective is to increase the workforce by 20,000 people to cover the potential of the construction sector, and to do this: “It is essential to integrate women into the sector, not only at management level, but also on the building site, as well as young people. We need to call for a sociological change and break down prejudices to be able to solve this problem”, he stressed. Although the number of women in the construction sector is increasing in Spain, their presence remains stronger in management positions.

Holding events outdoors is another trend highlighted at the real estate forum. Very popular in Spain, this allows participants to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. The island’s ideal year-round climate is particularly pleasant for these festivities. Abama’s 160 hectares of grounds, with over 25,000 palm trees, are a veritable tropical garden, and a unique and unusual setting for all types of receptions. The hotel recently opened a new multifunctional open-air event space called Abama Garden. The 3,800m2 space can accommodate up to 1,800 people for corporate, social, cultural, educational, sporting or leisure events, with breathtaking views over La Gomera and the Atlantic Ocean.

Abama also showcases the island’s cultural beauties with new excursions to meet growing demand. The hotel recently offered the unique experience of participating in the annual Corpus Christi event in the town of La Orotava. Held in June, this cultural and artistic day consists of making ephemeral floral carpets from flowers and volcanic sand. This tradition dates back to 1847, when Doña Leonor del Castillo made a religious floral offering in front of the Monteverde house. Today, Abama involves its guests in this custom, ending the day by enjoying an evening in one of the houses that originated the tradition, the Machado, and offering a guided tour of the facilities of one of the most legendary and beautiful buildings in the town of La Orotava.
